When NO ONE else would
help . . . .
the National Legal Foundation did—thanks to you!
Dear Friend of Freedom,
By now you may have heard the news.
Chesterfield County, Virginia, had a policy of opening its county counsel
meetings with prayer. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that a witch wanted to come and give a “prayer.”
This probably sounds like a joke . . . but it’s not! A real witch—a member of
the Wiccan religion—wanted to “pray.”
The County refused. And good for them!
But—you guessed it—the witch sued the County. She got the ACLU and Americans
United for Separation of Church and State to bring the lawsuit in federal court.
The County refused to cave in. They decided to defend the lawsuit. They knew
that in this country it is OK to open county counsel meetings with traditional
prayer AND to say “no” to people who want to invoke goddesses and spirits!
Well, the county lost in federal district court. But it still didn’t give up. It
appealed the case to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
No one else came to the aid of the County. Everybody thought that it would loose
again. I know that because I talked to folks at other organizations.
No one else was willing to make the simple argument that it’s OK to say no to
the witches. They thought we had lost too much of our Christian heritage in this
country for that argument to ever succeed.
But we knew we HAD to help. We knew we had to try. Whether we succeeded was
God’s business, but we had to be faithful to the effort.
Well, praise God! The county—with our help—won!
And when I say “with our help,” I mean with YOUR help. You—and all of our other
supporters—made this possible. YOU are the National Legal Foundation. This is
YOUR victory and I just had to write to say “thank you.”
I am enclosing a copy of the cover of the Court’s opinion. You will see that the
National Legal Foundation—and no one else—is named right on the cover as being
involved in this case along with the County.
It was especially sweet to help defeat the ACLU and Americans United for
Separation of Church and State—it is so typical of them to try to pervert prayer
into an opportunity to invoke goddesses.
We really appreciate all of your faithful prayers and gifts. When NO ONE else
was willing to help, YOU enabled the National Legal Foundation to stand up and
be counted.
It was so important to me to let you know about this great victory that I have
not taken the chance to tell you about any of the on-going projects . . . but I
know that I can count on your continued faithful giving at his important time.
We CANNOT—and will not—rest on our laurels.
Please give your very best gift
today so that together we can continue to defeat the ACLU, Americans United,
and all the other enemies of our Christian heritage!
Thanks for being there,
Steven W. Fitschen
President
P.S. I have written to you about JUST ONE of the indications of how important
your support of the NLF is. In my next letter I will tell you about how YOUR
support of this ministry has been recognized by Time magazine.
Together, you and the NLF are REALLY making a difference in this country! We
couldn’t do it without you!
Thanks in advance for sending that gift today. |
