September 3, 2002 Office of the President Marriage is under attack in Massachusetts, Dear Friend of the National Legal Foundation: In my last few letters, I have written to you about our many battles on the religious liberty front . . . and no wonder! The Pledge of Allegiance is under attack. And so are the Ten Commandments. And our National Motto, "In God We Trust." BUT there is another attack under way in this country that I have not written to you about in a while. The attack on marriage. It is now high time that I give you an update. Marriage is currently under attack in three statesany one of which could be deadly. And thats why I need your help. Several weeks ago I was asked to travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with national pro-family leaders who were concerned about two lawsuits that had been filed in Massachusetts and New Jersey. And before I could even write to you about these cases . . . a third case was filed in Indiana! YES, THE RADICAL HOMOSEXUALS ARE ON THE MOVE AGAIN! And you and I must help stop them. Together, we can. Let me come back to the Washington, D.C., meeting that I mentioned. At that meeting, I was asked, "What will the National Legal Foundation do to help?" And I hope you know what answer I gave. I told those leaders that the National Legal Foundation will step up to the plate. I told them that we will help defend marriage in Massachusetts and in New Jersey. And I know that with you prayers and financial support, we will fulfill that promise. AND . . . we will fight the good fight in Indiana, too. In Massachusetts, seven same-sex couplesfour lesbian couples and three male homosexual coupleshave sued the Department of Public Health to force it to issue marriage licenses to them. In New Jersey, seven more couplesfive lesbian couples and two male homosexual coupleshave sued various officials in the Department of Human Services, and in local departments of Vital Statistics, as well as town clerks to get marriage licenses. And finally, in Indiana, three same-sex couplestwo lesbian couples and a male homosexual couplehave sued the governor and two court clerks to get marriage licenses. In each case the goal is the same . . . to destroy marriage as we know it! Ironically, each lawsuit is couched in the language of love. Each lawsuit tries to paint the lesbians and homosexuals as just wanting to be able to fall in love and get married like the rest of us. BUT THERES JUST ONE PROBLEM . . . God says its wrong! Its not that we hate homosexuals, as we are so often accused of. Its just that we believe that God knows better than a bunch of social engineers. And yet in this day and age of "tolerance" so few people will stand up for Gods truth. And thats why Im writing to ask for your help. You have proven that you are one of the people who is not ashamed of Gods truth and Gods ways. We can love those trapped in sin and yet at the same time we can stand up to their dangerous political agenda. Marriage must be defended . . . in Massachusetts, in New Jersey, and in Indiana. Please send your very best gift today to help fund these three incredibly important briefs. If we lose in any of these cases, marriage will be in trouble in every state in the nation. We cant let that happen! Let me hear from you today! In defense of marriage and the family, Steven W. Fitschen P.S. The research has already begun. National pro-family leaders are counting on the National Legal Foundation to do its part . . . and I am counting on you for your prayers and your financial support. Please send your very best gift immediately! Thanks so much. |
