To: Friend of the National Legal Foundation From: Steven W. Fitschen, President Re: Christmas and New Year greetings and year end request Just a quick note to wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year. The National Legal Foundation is not just a public interest law firm. We are also a Christian ministry. We do what we do because we believe God has called us to this task. That makes the Christmas season a very special time of year for us as it is for all Christians. If there were no Christmas, there would be no NLF. Since 1985, one of the most important things we have done is make sure there is freedom to preach the Gospel in America. We also are here to make sure that Christians have all the religious freedom that our Founders intended. This year you have helped us do so much to defend religious freedom. You have also helped us fight the radical homosexual agenda and defend pro-life speech. I could write pages about every one of these issues . . . and about how you have made the difference. Instead, Ive decided to send you one concrete example of your prayers and donations at work. Enclosed with this memo, you will find a letter from the Ohio Attorney Generals office to one of our lawyers, David Huggins. I think this letter speaks for itself it explains how important our friend-of-the-court briefs have been in the Ohio motto case . . . briefs that you helped fund. Briefs in which you and the NLF together stood up to the ACLU who wants to stop the state of Ohio from using its motto, "With God all things are possible." This is just one example of why your financial support is so critical. As you know, our services are free to our clients. After all, how can a group of high school kids as another example afford to pay us to defend their rights? When we win a case for our clients, we dont get a percentage of what our clients win . . . because our clients dont win money. They win the right to exercise their religion. Thats why you are so important to us. YOU ARE THE LIFE BLOOD OF THE NLF. Without your prayers and donations, we could not do what God has called us to do. As the year ends and in the first few months of 2001 we have an immediate need for $50,000 to eliminate the financial shortfall caused by our battles against the ACLU, the radical homosexuals, and the militant secularists. |
